Sit in chair. Only the balls of your feet and your toes should rest on the floor. Put rolled towel under knees, if needed, to lift your feet. Rest your hands on your thighs or on the sides of the chair.
Slowly extend one leg in front of you as straight as possible.
Flex foot to point toes toward head.
Hold position for 1 to 2 seconds.
Slowly lower leg back down. Pause.
Repeat with other leg.
Alternate legs until you have done 8 to 15 repetitions with each leg.
Rest; then do another set of 8 to 15 alternating repetitions

Home Made Facials

Autumn Apple Facial Mask
Just because the leaves on the trees are falling down dead, doesn't mean your skin has to. Get rid of those dead skins cells with this mask. Ingredients:
• 1/4 of an apple
• 1/2 tsp Half and half
• 1 Tsp honey
• 1 T oatmeal
Instructions:
Mash with a fork in a small bowl and mix it together well. Then apply it to your face. Leave on for 10 minutes and then rinse off.

Avocado Facial Mask
Ingredients:
• 1/2 Avocado
Instructions:
Mash avocado and apply evenly to your face. Leave it on for 15-20 minutes. Rinse off with cool water or soft wash cloth.

Banana, Honey and Yogurt Facial Mask
Ingredients:
• 1/2 banana
• 2 tablespoons yogurt
• 1-tablespoon honey
Instructions:
Mash the banana with a fork then mix in honey and yogurt. Apply to your face evenly. Leave it on for 15-20 minutes. Rinse off with cool water or soft wash cloth.

Banana Oatmeal Mask
Ingredients:
• 1 medium to large Banana; soft and peeled
• 1/3 to 1/2 cup oatmeal (depends on the size of the banana)
Instructions:
Mash the oatmeal into the soft peeled banana a little at a time. Continue until all of the oatmeal is moistened. Apply to your face evenly, leaving it on for 15-20 minutes. Rinse off with warm water or soft wash cloth.

Banana and Vitamin E Mask
Ingredients:
• 1 medium to large Banana; soft and peeled
• 4 Vitamin E gel caps
Instructions:
Vitamin E can help heal the skin while the banana will energize the face. Mash the banana and squeeze the liquid out of the gelcaps. Mix well with the banana. Avoiding the eye area, apply the mask and leave on for 10 minutes. Rinse with warm water and pat dry.

Brown Sugar and Milk Mask
Ingredients:
• 1/4-cup brown sugar
• 1 - 2 tbsp milk, anything but skim
Instructions:
Mix the two ingredients well. Apply to freshly cleaned face and massage gently for a full minute - leave on for 15 minutes. Wash off with warm water and pat dry.

Cornmeal Facial Scrub
Ingredients:
• cornmeal
• water
Instructions:
Mix cornmeal with enough water to make a paste. Apply to skin in a circular motion. Allow drying and rinsing off with cool water.

Cucumber and Yogurt Facial Mask
Ingredients:
• 1/2 cucumber
• 1-tablespoon yogurt
Instructions:
Puree cucumber and yogurt in a blender; apply to your face evenly. Leave it on for 15-20 minutes. Rinse off with cool water or soft washcloth.

Grapefruit Facial Mask
Ingredients:
• 1-teaspoon grapefruit juice
• 1-teaspoon sour cream
• 1 egg white
Instructions:
This is for an oily to normal skin type. Beat egg white until it is fluffy, add sour cream and grapfruit juice and blend well. Apply to face for 15 minutes, and then rinse with warm water

Nourishing Facial Mask
Ingredients:
• 1 egg
• 1 tsp almond oil
• 1 T half and half
Instructions:
Combine the ingredients and apply to your face. Leave on for about 15 minutes. Remove with cool water.

Orange Yogurt Facial Mask
Ingredients:
• 1 tsp plain yogurt
• juice of 1/4 of an orange
Instructions:
Stir to mix and then dip fingers into mixture and smooth onto face. The sensation is both cool and relaxing. Leave on for a five minutes and then rinse. If you are feeling sluggish, this is the perfect mask for you. The yogurt will cleanse and nourish. The orange is full of Vitamin C and AHA's.

Papaya Facial Mask
Ingredients:
• Papaya
Instructions:
Peel and remove seeds. Chop into pieces and drop into food processor. Puree until papaya is the consistency of baby food. Use 1/2 a tablespoon for each facial. Keep leftovers in a baggie in the frig. Research shows that it is one of the best non-abrasive masks that you can use. It contains a strong enzyme called papain which dissolves oil and dead skin cells.

Strawberries and Cream Facial Mask
Ingredients:
• 4-5 very ripe med-size strawberries
• 2 tsp. heavy cream
• 1 tsp. honey
Instructions:
Puree strawberries, cream and honey together in a blender. Apply to your face evenly. Leave it on for 10 minutes. Rinse off with cool water or soft washcloth.

Birbal and Tansen

Tansen was a high-ranking official in King Akbar's court. However, he had one longstanding wish - to suck the queen's voluptuous breasts to his heart's desire. Every time he passed the queen, he would get frustrated. He revealed his desire to Birbal one day, and begged him to do something about it.

Birbal, after much thought, agreed on the condition that Tansen could suck the breasts to his desire but later he would have to pay Birbal 1000 gold coins for it. Tansen agreed.

The next day Birbal prepared a high voltage itching lotion and poured it into the queen's bra while she was taking a bath. Soon the itching started and grew in intensity much to the king's anxiety. Consultations with doctors and Birbal revealed that a special saliva, if applied for four hours, would cure it. Birbal also added that such a saliva was only in Tansen's mouth.

Akbar summoned Tansen and for the next 4 hours, Tansen violently sucked the queen's breasts. Licking, biting, pressing, playing he got what he always desired. Satisfied, he returned and met Birbal, but since his mission was over, he refused to pay Birbal anything and in fact, shooed him away.

Tansen of course knew that Birbal could never report this matter to the emperor since he was instrumental in it himself. What Tansen did not know was what Birbal would do the next day...

However, eating even a very light breakfast prevents the morning platelet activation that is associated with heart attacks and strokes.


Studies performed at Memorial University in St.Johns, Newfoundland found that eating a light, very low-fat breakfast was critical in modifying the morning platelet activation. Subjects in the study consumed either low-fat or fat-free yogurt, orange juice, fruit, and a source of protein coming from yogurt or fat-free milk.


So if you skip breakfast, it's important that you change this practice immediately in light of this research. Develop a simple plan to eat cereal, such as oatmeal or Bran Flakes, along with six ounces of grape juice or orange juice, and perhaps a piece of fruit. This simple plan will keep your platelets from sticking together, keep blood clots from forming, and perhaps head off a potential Heart Attack or stroke.
So never ever skip breakfast.

Star forts are incredible, relatively unappreciated structures - humungous constructions that only really become visually stunning when you look down on them from above. This type of fortification design was adopted in the early 16th century as people realised that simpler, often circular forts were pretty crap when it came to the job in hand: defense.

Palmanova (Friulian: Palme) is a town in northeastern Italy, close to the border with Slovenia. It is located 20 km from Udine, 28 km from Gorizia and 55 km from Trieste near the junction of the Autostrada Alpe-Adria (A23) and the Autostrada Venezia-Trieste (A4).
Palmanova is famous for its fortress plan and structure, called a star fort, imitated in the Modern era by numerous military architects.
On October 7, 1593, the superintendent of the Republic of Venice founded a revolutionary new kind of settlement: Palmanova. The city's founding date commemorated the victory of European forces (supplied primarily by the Venetian republic) over Ottoman Turks in the Battle of Lepanto. October 7 also celebrated Saint Justina, chosen as the city's patron saint. Using all the latest military innovations of the 16th century, this tiny town was a fortress in the shape of a nine-pointed star, designed by Vincenzo Scamozzi. In between the points of the star, ramparts protruded so that the points could defend each other. A moat surrounded the town, and three big, guarded gates allowed entry.
The outer line of fortifications was completed under the Napoleonic domination. From 1815 to 1866 the city was under Austria, and was annexed 50 years later to Italy together with Veneto and the western Friuli.
In 1960 Palmanova was declared national monument.

Oz scientists develop apple that doesn't go brown

Sydney: How many times do you cut an apple, only to see it turn into shade of brown, often turning you off? Well, Australian scientists have come up with an apple that does not go brown when cut

Unlike most apples, which go brown almost immediately, the fruit stays a pale pink colour for several hours after it is exposed to air.

It will be sold under the name Enchanted, and state minister Kim Chance said he hoped its unique qualities would make it popular worldwide. "The resistance of Enchanted apples to oxidation makes it much more useful and attractive for industry," said Chance, Western Australia's state agriculture minister.

"It is also likely to be very popular as a fresh apple for platters and lunchboxes, and for fresh juicing, where it retains an attractive pink blush and fresh, light flavour."

The apple was bred naturally in Australia from the varieties Lady Williams and Golden Delicious, the West Australian newspaper said on its website.

Chance said the fact it was produced without genetic modification meant it can be marketed around the world.

"We've got an apple now that has particularly strong qualities," he told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. "You could almost say (the qualities) are unique, particularly the anti-browning, but we also have a non G (genetically modified) apple, which means when we ultimately internationalise the variety it will be acceptable right around the world." AHMEDABAD: This doctor doesn't wear a coat, has never taken the Hippocratic Oath and walks on four legs! But the female dachshund is a first class healer. And her patients would vouch for the fact. For very few can boast of pulling out people from bouts of depression and bringing a smile to those suffering from chronic disease.

Perhaps that is why the title, Dr Dog, sits easy on her. Skippy, as the doctor is called, is also a visiting specialist at Blind People'sAssociation, Prem Fateh Foundation, and the Manav Sadhna School atGandhi Ashram. Skippy's initiation into the field began two years ago when two Taiwanese volunteers from Animals Asia Foundation came toIndia to introduce the Dr Dog programme.

"The programme had been a success in Taiwan, wherein dogs were used to help people deal with their worries," said Bijoy Shivram, owner of the dog. He said the idea was to use dogs as part of a therapy to bring succour to those who were severely ill or on their death-bed and even to the underprivileged.

The programme began in collaboration with the Animal Health Foundation(AHF) in Ahmedabad. Around 40 dogs participated in an event held tochoose Dr Dog. The criteria was to select a dog that was friendly,warm, calm and one which would not be intimidated by strangers. A volunteer would suddenly jump, shout or run in front of the dog and itwas judged by its reaction. "A number of dogs participating in the event reacted aggressively; unlike Skippy who was very friendly and calm," said Shivram.

"She was one of the best among the seven short-listed Dr Dogs," said the proud owner. Skippy's visit to the BPA earned her a huge fan following among students. "The visually impaired often feel unwanted and getting acquainted with dogs is a touching experience," said Jassu Kavi, education director at BPA. Kavi was talking about Skippy's visitto BPA where she spent some time with 40 children from the institute."Once the children got familiar with the dog, it kept following themto the hostel room, climbed on their beds and even hugged them," said Kavi.

"I don't fear dogs anymore now that I have met Skippy. I enjoy playing with her. Just being with her gives me immense happiness," said Gajendra Vyas, at BPA.

But Skippy's social service was threatened once AHF stopped functioning. "It was difficult to go to organisations and convince them about dog therapy once the parent organisation ceased functioning," said Shivram. However, families and acquaintances who were aware of Skippy's work kept calling her for visits. Playful Skippy has provided solace to many so far. "I wish to continue with the activities as Skippy has made a difference to so many lives," saidShivram. Some of the people who benefited from her company also came together to celebrate her birthday in December.

One day I met a sweet gentleman and fell in love. When it became apparent that we would marry, I made the supreme sacrifice and gave up eating beans.


Some months later, on my birthday, my car broke down on the way home from work. Since I lived in the countryside, I called my husband and told him that I would be late because I had to walk home. On my way, I passed by a small diner and the odour of baked beans was more than I could stand.


With miles to walk, I figured that I would walk off any ill effects by the time I reached home, so I stopped at the dinner and before I knew it, I had consumed three large orders of baked beans.

All the way home, I made sure that I released all the gas. Upon my arrival, my husband seemed excited to see me and exclaimed delightedly: "Darling I have a surprise for dinner tonight." He then blindfolded me and led me to my chair at the dinner table. I took a seat and just as he was about to remove my blindfold, the telephone rang. He made me promise not to touch the blindfold until he returned and went to answer the call. The baked beans I had consumed were still affecting me and the pressure was becoming most unbearable, so while my husband was out of the room I seized the opportunity, shifted my weight to one leg and let one go. It was not only loud, but it smelled like a fertilizer truck running over a skunk in front of a pulpwood mill.

I took my napkin from my lap and fanned the air around me vigorously. Then, shifting to the other cheek, I ripped off three more. The stink was worse than stinking cabbage. Keeping my ears carefully tuned to the conversation in the other room, I went on like this for another few minutes. The pleasure was indescribable. When eventually the telephone farewells signaled the end of my freedom, I quickly fanned the air a few more times with my napkin, placed it on my lap and folded my hands back on it feeling very relieved and pleased with myself. My face must have been the picture of innocence when my husband returned, apologizing for taking so long.
He asked me if I had peeked through the blindfold, and I assured him I had not.

At this point, he removed the blindfold, and twelve dinner guests seated around the table chorused: "Happy Birthday!" I nearly died!

Letter to the Canadian Passport Office

Super letter, whether its for real or not is debatable:

Dear Mr. Minister,

I'm in the process of renewing my passport, and still cannot believe this.

How is it that Radio Shack has my address and telephone number and knows that I bought a t.v.cable from them back in 1997, and yet, the Federal Government is still asking me where I was born and on what date.

For Christ sakes, do you guys do this by hand? My birth date you have on my social insurance card, and it is on all the income tax forms I've filed for the past 30 years. It is on my health insurance card, my driver's license, on the last eight goddamn passports
I've had, on all those stupid customs declaration forms I've had to fill out before being allowed off the planes over the last 30 years, and all those insufferable census forms that are done at election times.

Would somebody please take note, once and for all, that my mother's name is Maryanne, my father's name is Robert and I'd be absolutely astounded if that ever changed between now and when I die !!!!!! STUPID!

I apologize, Mr. Minister. I'm really pissed off this morning. Between you an' me, I've had enough of this bullshit! You send the application to my house, then you ask me for my damn' address. What is going on? You have a gang of Neanderthals Jackass's workin' there! Look at my damn picture. Do I look like Bin Laden? I don't want to dig up Yasser Arafat, for shit sakes. I just want to go and park my ass on a sandy beach.

City boffins develop low-cost device to detect heart attacks

MUMBAI: City scientists have developed 'iSens' – a low-cost biosensor which they say detects heart attacks well in advance.

Developed at IIT Mumbai's Centre for Excellence of Nanoelectronics, the iSens is now being prepared for clinical trials and will be available by the end of this year, said Dr V Ramgopal Rao, who heads this project.

"Field trials will not take time since it is only a diagnostic tool. We are talking to some Indian and multinational companies to commercialise the product," Rao said. Not only is the cost kept low, he said, but the sensor also detects possible acute myocardial infarction up to six months in advance.

The iSens is primarily a table-top box with a set of sensors, and costs between Rs 5,000 and Rs 10,000. Blood samples are taken on disposable cartridges, and inserted into the box for a period of around 10 minutes, Rao explained.

The box comprises nano-sized sensors, smaller than a millionth of a millimetre. These sensors measure the levels of proteins and enzymes – such as myoglobin, proponin and CK-MB – which can cause myocardial infarctions. Based on the concentration of these elements, the box displays a reading to classify the risk as low, medium or high.

"Our aim is to reach the iSens to the primary health care (PHC) centres. Only five per cent of patients are able to reach hospitals, while 95 per cent go to PHCs or small clinics," Rao said. "We can train the PHC personnel as the device will be simple to operate."

The project was funded by the National Programme for Smart Materials and the National Programme on Micro and Smart Systems. In association with his colleague Soumyo Mukherjee of the university's Bio-School, Rao and his team have also developed small silicon lockets to be worn by patients. These lockets can take an ECG of the patient, and transfer the data to a doctor via a mobile phone. PTI

Scientists plan mission to send spacecraft to the Sun

NEW YORK: US scientists are planning to send a spacecraft to the sun to study the streams of charged particles it hurls into space. Experts have grappled with this mission concept for over 30 years. Now, a team at NASA's Johns Hopkins University's Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) is developing a special spacecraft for the Solar Probe mission.

At closest approach, Solar Probe would zip past the sun at 200 km per second, protected by a carbon-composite heat shield that must withstand up to 1,400 degrees Celsius, and also survive blasts of radiation and energised dust at levels not experienced by any previous spacecraft.

"Solar Probe is a true mission of exploration," said Robert Decker, Solar Probe Project Scientist at APL. "And, as with all missions of discovery, Solar Probe is likely to raise more questions than it answers."

APL will design and build the spacecraft, on a schedule to launch in 2015. The compact, solar-powered probe would weigh about 500 kg. Preliminary designs of the spacecraft include carbon-foam-filled solar shield – 9 feet in diameter, and 6 inches thick – atop the spacecraft body.

Two sets of solar arrays would retract or extend as the spacecraft swings toward or away from the sun, making sure the panels stay at proper temperatures and power levels. At its closest passes, the spacecraft will have to survive solar intensity more than 500 times of that while orbiting Earth.

Over seven years, Solar Probe will gradually shrink its orbit around the sun, coming as close as 6.6 million kilometres to the sun, well within the orbit of Mercury and about eight times closer than any spacecraft has come before.

"The technology is within reach, the concept is feasible and the entire mission can be done for about the cost of a medium-class planetary mission," said Andrew Dantzler, APL's Solar Probe Project Manager. PTI

3. If you are ever thrown into the trunk of a car, kick out the back tail lights and stick your arm out the hole and start waving like crazy. The driver won't see you, but everybody else will. This has saved lives.


4. Women have a tendency to get into their cars after shopping, eating, working, etc., and just sit (doing their checkbook, or making a list, etc. DON'T DO THIS!) The predator will be watching you, and this is the perfect opportunity for him to get in on the passenger side, put a gun to your head, and tell you where to go. AS SOON AS YOU GET INTO YOUR CAR , LOCK THE DOORS AND LEAVE.

a. If someone is in the car with a gun to your head DO NOT DRIVE OFF, repeat: DO NOT DRIVE OFF! Instead gun the engine and speed into anything, wrecking the car. Your Air Bag will save you. If the person is in the back seat they will get the worst of it . As soon as the car crashes bail out and run. It is better than having them find your body in a remote location.

5. A few notes about getting into your car in a parking lot, or parking garage:

A.) Be aware: look around you, look into your car, at the passenger side floor , and in the back seat

B..) If you are parked next to a big van, enter your car from the passenger door . Most serial killers attack their victims by pulling them into their vans while the women are attempting to get into their cars.

C..) Look at the car parked on the driver's side of your vehicle, and the passenger side. If a male is sitting alone in the seat nearest your car, you may want to walk back into the mall, or work, and get a guard/policeman to walk you back out. IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY. (And better paranoid than dead.)

6. ALWAYS take the elevator instead of the stairs. (Stairwells are horrible places to be alone and the perfect crime spot. This is especially true at NIGHT!)
